Almond “milkshake” with Chia Seeds

almond milkshake with chia seedsI just made the drink that celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder calls the “Pure Protein Chia Shake”. She made it on the Dr. Oz show and he said it was like a milkshake – though it doesn’t taste like ice cream – it is yum! This is perfect if you need a sweet treat without the guilt. Not to mention all the benefits you get from chia. In particular Kimberly mentions beautiful hair, however you can read about many more benefits in one of our previous blogs on chia seeds.

It’s rather simple to make and I just eyeballed it. I filled my mug with unsweetened almond milk, added a heaping spoon of chia seeds, waited 15 min for it to thicken or gel a bit, then added ground cinnamon, vanilla extract and liquid stevia to taste. I put her exact measurements below for anyone who wants to measure it out.

-2 cup unsweetened almond milk
-2 tbsp chia seeds
-1/2 tsp cinnamon
-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
-stevia (I put 4 drops)

I love that this recipe uses ingredients that are also easy to incorporate into other dishes, so they won’t sit in your pantry or fridge idly until you decide to make the shake again. Though I think I’m hooked already. Cheers :-)

    Chia seeds come from a flowering plant in the mint family that’s native to Mexico and Guatemala, and history suggests it was a very important food crop for the Aztecs. It’s remained in regular use in its native countries, but was largely unknown in North America until researcher Wayne Coates began studying chia as an alternative crop for farmers in northern Argentina about 29 years ago..,:;
